How we see ourselves is very important to our overall self-confidence and effectiveness in the world and in relationships. Most of us don't know how our self-image was created in the first place.

From birth through age 8, our self image is formed. As a child, we believe what our parents, teachers, and other kids tell us about ourselves. If we're told that we are stupid, or ugly, or a "screw up," we accept that as true. Those early beliefs then go into our subconscious mind and become a a fundamental part of who we think we are. No matter how successful we later become, or what we accomplish, there is still a part of us that feels ugly, fat, stupid - basically unworthy of love or acceptance.
